Nubs

Picture
Sex:  Male
Age:  4 months old
Experience needed:  Exp with hedgies or special needs animals preferred

Nubs is a very sweet 4 month old dark male. He only has three legs (well, more like 3.25 legs - his back right leg is amputated about 3/4 of the way up.) He makes his way around just fine. Runs, plays, and uses his wheel like any other hedgie. He has no other known health issues or injuries, and his stump is 100% healed up.
The only real risk with an amputee hedgie is possible future abrasions or infections. The skin at the bottom of an amputated leg is not nearly as thick or rough as a foot’s skin would be. So it’s common for hedgies to sometimes get some irritation there from it rubbing against the bottom of their cage or wheel as they move around. These common irritations - when mild - generally heal up just fine on their own and don’t even require veterinary treatment so long as proper hygiene is being practiced. But if they do get a sore there, and their owner isn’t on top of footbaths and cage/wheel cleanings, infections are possible and would require treatment from a vet.
Because of how extra cautious you have to be with a hedgie like him, Nubs should only be adopted out to a responsible owner with the time to keep him and his enclosure clean, and the resources to get him vet care if he ever needs it. We would prefer someone who is experienced with hedgehogs or with other special needs or amputee animals, or possibly who works in the veterinary field.
He is very sweet and social and doesn’t mind being handled at all. Like any hedgie, he will spike up when startled or first woken up, but he relaxes almost instantly and is quite easy to handle. He's such a sweet and loveable boy. We will definitely miss him and would love updates as he grows up.
His adoption fee is just an $80 donation to our vet fund, but we do not want anybody seeking him out just to get a young hedgie for a cheaper price. His fee is low due to the possibility of vet bills in the future and the extra cleaning and vigilance that owning him will require.
